a bit more about the south island

Still trying to catch up telling you where we went to.... on our left (I think, I'm not very good at the editing of these things) is a photo of somewhere near Lake Wanaka, v pretty, we stayed in a nasty campsite and spent a pleasant day wandering around the lake and the town. Seemed as though everyone was doped up. I bought some nice flipflops. Then over the Haast pass to Haast (oddly), and up to the glaciers. Can't tell you too much about them as the weather was crap and we couldn't really see anything, but see photos above. I do remember us going out for a meal and having a lovely lamb roast.

And then on up to Punakaiki and finally to Nelson and the Abel Tasman, yay! - where the sun always shines... or nearly always. We spent a happy time trekking, or should i say tramping, the Abel Tasman tramp. For those of you that don't know, this involves walking through bush or along the coastline for 3 or 4 days, camping along the way (carrying all our food), and then catching a water taxi back. Lovely. The more we ate, the lighter our backpacks became. Win-win situation. We had nice weather, beautiful secluded campsites... and only a few blisters and a sighting of one of New Zealand's only deadly spiders in a bit of driftwood that we picked up to make a windbreak with....oops!
From the Abel Tasman we travelled east to Picton and played the BEST game of mini-golf ever (i won! i won!) and then headed across the Cook Straits to Wellington.... and that's a whole other story.
